Things between the feline and the dragon had caused their bond to strengthen a little bit at a time. Knowing a bit more about each other helped give Amethyst the belief that should could trust the witch. There had been so many that shunned her or wished to hunt her down for one reason or another that it seemed almost like a joke someone would just simply want to be friends. From being shown around the witch's enchanted home to being taught how to read, Amethyst had never felt such generosity.
Most of the talking had been from the energetic feline, always stating one thing or another and helping Amethyst understand simple words along the way. The dragon was never treated as though she lacked a mind of her own but rather treated with comion and letting her understand at her own pace. Several days and nights had gone as the two worked on a better understanding together. There was even a special cloak Lilian had made just so Amethyst could venture into public without the worry of hunters or other evils as much. More than once, Lily had complimented the draconian on her accent. It was just something she picked up from her own kind's tongue mixed with the northern region over the years.
As the two sat atop a hill, they sat and looked out at the various lands they could see. The sun was nowhere near as hot as the previous months and each bit of cool air felt both refreshing and gave a slight chill. Perhaps seasons were ready to change. It was peaceful. Something Amethyst wasn't quite used to but wouldn't mind allowing herself to relax once in a while like she was.
"Your coat," Lily asked and glanced over. "Did you make that or find it?"
The question seemed innocent enough and Amethyst gave a glance to her new friend out of the corner of her eye. "Made. Different reasons."
Lily nodded, her hat shifting with her head as she thought to herself. There was plenty the two knew about each other except some parts of their lives. While Lilian had told her scaly friend of her late mother, she glossed over how it happened. Of course, there was no need to pry if it brought up any bad memories. More silence filled between them as they took some time to themselves. It was the kitten once more who spoke up, though her voice was a bit more quiet.
"Ammy?" she asked softly and looked up to her friend. "What really happened with you and the White Wolf?"
Amethyst raised her brow in surprise, curious why one would care to know about something so long ago and twist into a tale of its own. Her look must have come off more upset than surprised as Lily shook her head.
"If it's something you don't want to talk about then it's okay! I just wanted to hear it from you if you'd be willing to tell," the witch explained while smiling some.
"I don't think anyone would believe how it really happened," the violet dragon stated and looked towards the clouds. "Though, I will tell you even if you don't believe what transpired."
Keeping quiet, the feline merely nodded and let her friend speak.
"It has been many years but I still it all so clearly. I had done nothing more than find myself shelter for the most part. During nights I took only what wasn't used by the nearby village and did my best to not cause any fright. Other than listening in to stories told through open windows, I kept out of everybody's lives as best as I could. When I was spotted, fear spread. It was quick, like a fire wanting to claim all. Days moved from one to the next and panic grew. Then... he came." Amethyst nearly whispered the last part.
"What happened?" Lilian inquired, urging her friend to keep going.
"He was a brave knight. Strong and... something special, I guess. I had never seen someone like him before. A knight. I wanted to know more about him. Where he hailed from, his life, how he got his scar over his eye. He was so interesting to me. Uh...fascinating," the dragon mentioned, trying to use some of the new words she had learned. "But, such feelings were one-sided. The story is true in that him and I fought. I never took him to the castle myself but he followed me. I didn't want to truly harm him. Things felt like those fairy tales I had heard. A knight after his own dragon..."
The phrasing and way in which Amethyst spoke sounded almost romantic. Lilian could nearly feel her own heart flutter. Then she saw Ammy's eyes lower.
"While in the castle, he wished to fight again. I bested him while trying to tell him I mean no harm. I guess he was knight through and through. He wouldn't listen to reason nor my pleas to just talk," Amethyst continued. "I took his weapon and put him in a cell. Thought it would give us time to speak clearly. I spent hours trying to have him hear me out. Fed him, gave him water. Not once did he want to look at me. I think I kept him for a few days, wishing he would just hear me out. His only responses were calling me a monster and other such things."
"I'm sorry," Lily said lightly and gently pat her friend's leg. "You can stop if you don't want to continue."
"No. I need to say it. It's been eating me up inside never having another soul to confide in. Thank you," Lily's tall friend replied. "I don't how long I kept him but I knew better than to keep him forever. I thought maybe the villagers would have come for him after a day yet none even ventured through the woods to the castle. Then I decided he should be free and tell them how he slayed me. I opened his cell door and lay his sword nearby. I told him I am his as he readied his weapon but stopped. I told him I was sorry and that I thought the village would come to his aid. Instead of striking me down he seemed to have heavy thoughts about things before merely walking past and exiting the castle."
Lilian seemed worried but held her tongue as she listened closely. She had never heard of the fact the wolf had been tended to and all.
"It was quiet for a while and then the screams filled the air. I could hear them all the way to the castle. I saw the flames in the village and worried. Maybe I was foolish to check it out but I didn't want them hurt. When I flew over to see the damage I...," Ammy stopped herself and frowned. "It was horrible. The wolf had torn through most of the innocent lives there. I could hear him shouting. Calling out how they left him for dead with me. His mind must have been fragile from me beating him that I can only guess his anger turned towards the ones to call on his aid that brought him there. He wished them the death that was left for him. I couldn't let him continue."
There was a heavy silence between the two as Amethyst tried to compose herself. Having told her side for the first time ever was a heavy weight shifting off her chest. Whether or not the witch believed her was a different matter. She could feel herself starting to heal.
"I raised my sword and kept him at bay from the few that remained. He shouted at me. Cursed me. Told me I had cursed him. He said a lot of things. I think he had lost his mind at that point. He didn't deserve it though. I doubt anybody stayed to see the end of the fight. It was quick and unceremonious. Not befitting of a knight. It just took one swing and I had claimed his head from his body. I hated it. I never wanted to kill, especially him. I just know he would never stop. Even if I maimed him, he would never be able to quell that fire that burned inside him. I just wish I could have done more for him, maybe have him understand me. Maybe he did and just refused to believe a... a monster like me could have actual feelings... I fled right after, scared of what they would say or do. Scared of myself. I never knew anybody would be willing to listen to me after what the tales had said," Ammy ended with, shifting a bit in her spot on the grass.
The two sat in silence for what seemed like a while. Neither one knew what to say for a bit until Lilian gave a small glance.
"You loved him, didn't you?"
Amethyst looked deep in thought for a moment before letting out a sigh. "...Aye."
