Midnight Jasmin
How I see you smile
You light up the room
Whenever I see you
Midnight Jasmin
How you turn your head
I just want to touch you
I just want to feel you
But it's not your fault
Open up your eyes
You could have anyone
Anyone in sight
Take a look around
Just look at your world
Anyone can see
You're not just any girl
Midnight Jasmin
Why do you look so sad
Just try and smile
With the face you have
Don't you know you're beautiful
Look into your heart
See it shining
That's what sets you apart
It's not your fault
That they don’t see
Just how lovely
You can be
What they know about you
You're so far beyond
Anything
Or anyone
Midnight Jasmin
Don't you cry
You'll see it through
To the other side
There are those that love you
Look through your tears
See them everywhere
Let go of your fear
'Cause its not your fault
That you're afraid
It's a scary world
In every way
Hold your chin up
Just walk straight
You'll see your problems
Run away
Midnight Jasmin
Hold out your hand
I'll take you anywhere
Far away from this land
Midnight Jasmin
Just your name
You don't have to
Play anybody's game
It's not your fault
Open up your eyes
You could have anyone
Anyone in sight
Just take a look around
Look at your world
Anyone can see
Your not just any girl
NOTES:
I wrote this while I was living in Council Bluffs Iowa after graduating high school. My girlfriend who I was living with at the time was under the impression this song was about here, and that maybe partially true, but I think more what I was doing was writing about an idealized girl I invented in my head and had named after one of my favorite incense scents at the time. My understanding at the time from one of the herbal books I had was that Jasmin was a rare and hard to produce scent so it was very special and rare. I think that was a romantic notion to me at the time, naming a girl after this beautiful, rare thing that I held dear. The chords and melody were very much inspired by the band, The Wallflowers, who were my favorite band all through high school. This song sounds a bit like 5th Avenue Heartache off Bringing Down the Horse. This song was written but never recorded until 5/7/2025 when I cut a cell phone demo. I don’t perfectly the melody, so what I have here is my best guess and what little I do .
