This is part of the second series for my short stories, "Before the Quiet."
K. heads back to the hotel after visiting the library, but needs to grab some grub as he's running low on food. Escaping from the busy and rainy city streets, he finds himself in a shop, but with nothing to trade, he has to give up one of his valuable possessions that his old friends gave him to keep himself from starving. He returns back to the hotel, where he tries to unwind and rest, but has the strangest dream... and the world quivered as a result.
