Whether or not wolves should appear comparable to bison in height in general is a different matter, but in this story the portrayal is consistent
As for your first comment, yeah! I wonder when the wolves stopped hunting for food, and relying too much on the bison. Did the wolves hunt less and less over the generations? Do the bison chase off any other potential competition for territory (and therefore outside prey for the wolves)?
"Well, you are becoming guards and shepherds from hunters. But for intelligent folk who are your allies. So GUARD them and create safe environment. Only hunt and eat their competition. Your prey must be their rivals. From bison? Eh... Those that die from old age, sickness or injury. Stillborn calves. Also spare milk from mothers is yours. NOT healthy young sons! If herd is big enough there will be plenty of each."
But off course progress is never clean and easy. So there will be messy tension and conflict like here. And wolves going lazy and greedy creating trouble.
It would be unfortunate if the folks from PG350, for instance, turned out to have a lifestyle based on sedentary farming, or flame weapons, or full-body suits of copper plate armor, or any number of the many things which in real life give their first inventors the power to destroy their neighbors.
And it seems after this ritual Moon will lead the Pack against the Hollow. So Rask better find a solution for his conondrum as Swift's teeth will be very much be needed here. And whatever solution he comes to might even help the Sky and Moon solve their slowly cracking Alliance.
