The tall Norn regards the desk behind the General, finding it stacked to near breaking point with papers.
"You should take a break." he comments dryly.
Almorra scoffs. "I don't do breaks. Not while there are still dragons around."
"Exactly. And that is precisely why you need one - you are overloading yourself. You can't do this alone, and without pausing to catch a breath."
"Look who's talking, /Commander/." Almorra smirks, her arms crossed.
The Commander raises his hands in a gesture of capitulation. "Hah. Got me there. But... is that a smile I see? From the tough, strong General?" He points at her with a shit-eating grin, and she chuckles.
"Fuck off. Don't push your luck." she fires back, but clearly in jest.
"Pushing my luck is all I have been doing all these years. And if I can get a good friend to finally get a damn smile on her ugly mug, I'll gladly take one on the chin." The giant man shrugs, still smiling.
Almorra tries to snarl, but can't stop a short laugh from escaping her maw. "One of these days, I /will/ maul you."
"That's fine. I'll just put my big arms around you, and I'll have myself a free hug!"
"I'd advise against that. I don't do hugs."
The Commander crosses his arms, and sighs. "But what if I ask nicely?"
Almorra shakes her head dismissively. "I don't have time for touchy-feely stuff."
Her tone has shifted a bit, and she seems a bit uneasy.
The Commander, picking up on that, softens his voice further, to a deep hum. "Hugs do wonders to relieve stress, yaknow."
"You can't make me, and I will gut you if you try."
A flash of a smile appears on the Commander's face as he senses an opening.
"Hah! I can see it already in the newspapers: <Commander murdered in cold blood by General Soulkeeper! When asked about it, the General replied: "It was therapeutic.">
Almorra bursts out laughing, unable to keep her stern facade.
The Commander grins wide. "There we go. Laughing is a fantastic stress relief, too. And if I have to make a fool of myself or risk catching hands - it's still worth it."
Almorra punches him on the arm. "Cheesy fucker." she grumbles jokingly.
Unshaken by the punch due to his huge frame, the Commander replies- "I mean it. And I'll always pester you to make sure you'll have something to laugh and smile about. As long as I'm alive."
Almorra sighs. Hesitates. And then murmurs- "Don't you dare tell anyone about this."
Puzzled, the Commander raises an eyebrow. "Hm? Wha-"
He doesn't get further as Almorra hugs him, and he falls quiet, taken by surprise. He remains silent, just slowly laying his arms around her, and sighs, smiling softly.
A few moments .
"...I hate when you are right. This does... help." Almorra its.
"See. Trust me, I've been through a lot of shit, like you. I know a thing or two about stress relief."
"I'll still kill you if you tell anyone about this."
"Fine by me. At least I'll die knowing you are well."
Both of them chuckle, holding the embrace for a few more moments before they part, still smiling.
The memory fades, and the Commander blinks as it slips from his grasp.
Back in the here and now, the memories moving further and further away from him with every ing second.
He looks up at the unmoving form of the Statue of Almorra, grey stone against the backdrop of his homestead's wooden walls.
Everybody will you for your legendary strength and resolve. But nobody will your smile and laugh like I do.
And out here, nobody can see the twelve foot man hug a statue, and weep.
I miss you, Almorra.I usually don't indulge much in the whole "personal OC's in scenes with Canon Characters", but for Almorra, I make this one exception. I had always seen Almorra as the one my Norn Commander had connected with the closest, especially as he was Vigil and she was one of the first major characters I encountered. Her death was the first video game character death that REALLY hit me hard. I think I am still not over it.
So I made this, as my own little personal memory of her.
In a way, my Commander and I share this pain.
Rest well, Almorra. We still fight, so that everyone may be free.
