You are most welcome. Same packet of photos also had photos of mom's home town after the Blitz of April 1940. Wooden 18th and 19th century homes and businesses went up like kindling. Brick structures were destroyed too. I mom taking photos from her Aunt's estate in 1981. She was raised by that Aunt and her sea captain husband. They were lucky, their home escaped the fires. That old family farm was a life saver during the war. The fields were put back into cultivation and some of the family lived there during the duration.

Looks like a good sturdy farmhouse to live in. I suspect that's essential if you lived in rural Norway back then.

Oh there are farms over there that go back hundreds of years. Still inhabited. I've been on properties where there are Viking Burial sites. If someone speaks of the Old Man of the farm, they mean the first owner who is buried there.

Oh, look. Basic transportation that runs on 100% renewable resources. I wonder if the house is still even there.

Well I sold my share in the property to my Aunt - mom's half sister about 15 years or so ago. Place was still standing then. She was the only one in the family who had been paying taxes on the old place. She was buying up all the shares in the place and was reminded by several cousins that I owned a share after Mom ed in 2003. She grudgingly reached out to me and bought my share - the other kin were refusing to sell unless I was paid. Bit of family drama. I miss the place, haven't been there since 1981. Kept thinking the fields would grow a damn good crop of potatos - hadn't been tilled in decades then. Old place if still standing is 180 years old give or take a few years. Place is build over a spring that flows year round. Go to the small basement with a bucket when you want water. Two smaller spring pools on the property. In the old days the family would catch a couple of trout in spring time and put them in those pools. Kept the bugs etc in check. In the Fall they'd have a trout dinner. Mom took me up to the steam her kin fished, I caught a few Browns that we had for dinner when staying at the old place. Vacations I always end up having some fishing gear with me. I'd bought a locally made handline mainly for ocean fishing but I also had some lighter line I tied to one end of a bobber and use a smaller hook and some worms. Worked like a charm. Still keep that rig handy in a backpack.

Too bad we have to stay here instead of exploring the Old World...

Oh that is a Fjording - one of the oldest horse breeds in the world. Strong, good temper, calm. You can ride them or have them pull plows, wagons, sleds, timber. Mane and tail tend to be white and black. My Hovard character is based on them. They look like a slightly refined version of the horses painted on caves in during the Ice Age. Not big but strong
