The original design was a black werewolf with glowing green eyes and black sclera, but I later asked the original artist to rework him with a “dark druid” theme, and this is what she came up with. The artist has talked about drawing inspiration from nature in the past, so it’s possible a wolverine subtly influenced the design, but I can’t say for sure since I haven't asked. What I do know is that I absolutely love the design, and fell in love with it the moment I was presented with the final look. There's nothing about him that I would change.
The design feels cozy and distinctive without leaning on unnaturally bright fur colors. There’s no deep lore reason behind the look. It’s purely a stylistic choice, like many designs in the fandom. If I could shapeshift into any form, I’d happily become him. Every time I see the design, it gives me this warm, woodsy, cottagecore vibe, like he belongs in a cabin deep in the forest, curled up by the fireplace, just there to keep you company, and that's honestly an accurate representation of what I would want a werewolf to be. While I also appreciate and even ire other werewolf designs out there, including the brighter colors, this design just speaks to me, and that's what a fursona should do!
