Subway stations has been used as air raid shelters at least since WWII and the Blitz in London. In fictional work like the Metro 2033 book and video game series, such shelters tend to mutate into full underground cities with permanent occupancy.
So I imagined a process which could progressively transform the former into the latter, although this only work with stations with a semi-circular cross-section like the ones often found in the Paris subway network.
