The Gargan Hound is a large, carnivorous canid native to the Eastern regions of the Elysium Continent. It typically inhabits arid grasslands and steppes where it stalks prey, such as large lagomorphs and tapirs, taking them down with a devastating bite to the head or the jugular.

Its massive neck muscles allow it to hold onto larger prey and wrestle it down to the ground, in case the initial bite wasn't fatal. The stripes on its fur function as a means of thermoregulation (the lighter stripes reflect more light and absorb less heat).

Despite being a canine, the Gargan Hound lives more like a big cat: a solitary hunter that seldom interacts with other of its species. Males are typically about 10% larger than females. Both sexes interact only in the early dry season when mating can occur. If the female accepts the male, the pair will spend 3-5 days together before going their separate ways. After a 7-month pregnancy, the female will produce a litter of 3 to 5 pups which she will raise on her own for around 5 years. After that, she will chase her pups away so they can find their own territory.
