The most unnerving part is the silence. I have been wandering the plains for days, yet I still have to hear one single bird or grasshopper. Mind you, animal life exists - there are small insects in the grass and there are various plants that look like their flowers are pollinated not by wind, but I have never heard any of them making a sound. Even the fliers have big, shimmering wings that don't buzz. I have been following a stream for the ease of orientation, but I fear if I will remain in this silence, with nothing but the wind rustling the grass and my own footsteps to hear, I will surely go insane soon.
Part of a series of landscape drawings. I've done one set on stream and it took forever.

I like this a lot! This makes me think of old RPG games where you had a single image portraying an area and you had a selection of some functions you could do there. Needless to say, this makes me feel nostalgic.

Thanks; with you mentioning it, I kind of see it now as well. The inspiration was Scavengers Reign.

The description's otherwordly feel reminded me of Simak's "Special Deliverance" - it's also full of landscapes each with a certain character.

Interesting, will probably get onto my ever-growing to-be-read pile. I do quite enjoy stories where the locations are treated as more than just backdrops for plot and characters.
