Since the new Dune has been released recently, I want to share my vision of the design of Baron Harkonnen.
The new movies took all the fun out of it. Lynch, on the contrary, has a feast of idiocy. Vladimir's designs ranged from boring to incredibly surreal. But many artists forget that Harkonnen is described as extremely, EXTREMELY fat - this is the reason why he got the antigravs on which he floats. In neither Lynch nor Villeneuve, the Baron looks like a man who needs help getting around. But Lynch portrayed various orgies and other feasts with a bang. The baron was still a pervert, after all. Despite all this, he remained the head of the house, which means he was an intelligent man. Clever, sinister and hedonistically perverted.
Well, as for design, every artist did his best. I always saw the Baron as a space version of Nero.
