Vile Wings - A Tale of Fidonhaal (CHAPTER 1/8)
by Wulfe Van Der Kross

Here is the first chapter of my "rough cut" typed-draft of the short story Vile Wings, which is intended to be the first of a collection of short stories featuring a recurring character (Zongar Highsun) who is a member of the great nomadic tribe known as the Trichynay.
Eventually, I intend to get several more stories featuring this intrepid tribal warrior together, and then go through the proper motions of getting them edited and squared away with my publisher to produce a book. However, until then, I'm putting this initial of this story out there as a freebie, something to hopefully be of interest to both those who have looked into my writing already and those who are newcomers to the setting of Fidonhaal.
Hope you enjoy! Thanks for reading!

GLOSSARY:
* Fidon - The prominent "people" of the world of Fidonhaal, who appear to our eyes as anthropomorphic wolves or similar canines. From their language, "Fidon" translates to "Faith(ful) One," as their name relates to their bond of faith with Onu, their Maker and monotheistic deity.
* Loflak - A winged monster in Fidonhaal. Translated from the Fidon tongue, it translates to "Curse(d) Wing," but is also "localized" to simply harpy.
* Onu - The monotheistic deity of the Fidons. His name translates simply to "The One."
* Raakaru - The primordial source of evil in Fidon lore. His name translates to "The Hateful Heart," as his being the initiator of evil sprang from his hatred of both his Maker and of all mortals who follow and trust in Onu's/the Maker's will for freedom as opposed to his own desire for total order.
If you enjoy this story, I hope you might consider looking into the maps and relevant artwork for the Fidonhaal setting, as well as select chapters from my first novel The Saga of Fidonhaal: Daughters of the East, which is now available in both e-book and print-on-demand paperback formats on Amazon.

So, in short, no critical DOE story points are spoiled here. At most, in this version of the first chapter, there is some reference to some of the issues that Kellmayar, "the West," had been dealing with during part one of the novel, because this story occurs while that's going on (indeed, this story's range of dates are a little before chapter one of DOE!).
It's really been "start n' stop" with me on all this for a while, due to a number of reasons, not the least of which being plain ol' procrastination, but I *am* still working at it/not utterly quitting on it, so yeah. *shrug*
