So I mistook this for a B-25...it wasn't until five minutes ago as I'm writing this that I realized it isn't a B-25. Ouch.
So basically the A-26 was a light bomber/ground attack plane used during WWII and to some extent the Cold War also. Heavily armed and capable of a 6,000 lbs bomb load, these aircraft weren't something to scoff at. Under US service, the A-26 saw action in a number of places, ranging from the Pacific and European fronts of WWII to the various Asian theaters of the Cold War (such as Korea and Vietnam for instance). It was even in use with the CIA in some instances, which I certainly did not know until recently.
And that's just under US service too; the A-26 found it's way into a lot of other countries' air forces, more notably the French Air Force during the 1950s. Additionally it's seen quite a bit of use in civilian applications, which I think is pretty neat.
Soooo yeah...now we know I apparently can't tell the difference between an A-26 and a B-25. Let's just hope I don't mistake a P-40 with MiG or something...
