Crystals are a source of magic in Mist's world and Kval is a druid who can shape it.
In this comic, Mist has heard of a mystical forest hermit that some have sought out when they were lost. As part of the royal family & reeling from political matters, she sneaks out to the forest looking for aid, discovering Kval. He is able to draw power from the crystalline caverns to show her possible futures, giving her some direction and resolve.
No dialogue, but that just means it can change each time you read it.
Kval was never meant to be extraordinarily powerful. He gets his magic from the world around him & shapes it into small but impactful gestures.
He is a pacifist & a friend on the fringes that can be reached out to.
....
Maybe I am too idealistic, trying too hard to project onto Kval, not wanting to involve him with conflict.
Maybe that's exactly the outlet that a 'sona can be.
