Biographical note The origins of the Wazdeleba clan can be traced back to at least the 13th century TCE, their oldest named ancestor being the illustrious sea raider Rivla the Fair, son of Wazdel. The late 25th century TCE Wazdelebas form a prominent, numerous family of landowners and industrialists with a lasting involvement in the textile and fishing sectors.
The Wazdelebas also played a significant role in local politics, with no less than 8 of the family having been mayors of the city of Sorako (Southern County) in the past 400 years.
Taray, the youngest son of three (one elder brother: Tama, b. 2457, and one elder sister:Taresta, b. 2459), was schooled at the prestigious Southern Chapter boarding school in the town of Wist, near Sorako. A mediocre student, he was nevertheless ired and commended for his cheerful and energetic character, his generosity and his almost uncanny ability to make friends.
Taray's parents, probably hoping to make him part of the family business, at first pushed him to study law and ancy in superior school. The physically active, light-hearted teenager, an entertainer at heart, was—according to all his teachers—notably ill-suited for that sort of study.
An unexpected vacancy in the ranks of the Wantael Island Royal Guards (WeGS) forced Captain Kaikuli, Captain Soist's immediate predecessor, to search for someone to fill that position. As the son of an old and prestigious family, Taray was a natural choice and he was made a Guard in I-2487, shortly after his year of military training.
Concerns about his alleged laziness, his licentious behaviour and general lack of seriousness have proved to be greatly exaggerated. His free, hedonistic personality hasn't seriously interfered with his duties as a member of the WeGS, and it should be noted that the presence at his side of Guard Kunesta (#6, recruited I-2489) seems to have moderated his excessive tendencies over the past two years.
