To celebrate the conquering of Europe by the red fire ant--okay, because Perfesser Bear asked about it--here's my Hero Forge portrait of Pepe the Fire Ant, the vicious, murderous cartoon desperado created and drawn by cartoonist Scooter Kildall in my comic strip, "Carry On." It's not a very good likeness, but I gotta work with what I got.
Pepe became a hit early on with his catchphrase I BITE YOU HARD, YOU DIE! He was inspired by a parody radio spot that said "Fire ants are not cute or cuddly or make pretty sounds. They are horrible and must die!" or words to that effect.
Kathy is probably Pepe's biggest--and possibly only--fan.
In-universe, insects are not sapient, and there is a fandom that attends "Arthrocon" and dress up like bugs. The Arthrocon arc took up most of 2009.

(This kind of reminds me of my constant battles with the Argentine army ants that are especially aggressive in warm weather.)
