The size of this natural rock arch is like nothing Craddock has ever seen! It is truly unbelievable that such a narrow bridge could span such a great distance!
After encircling the magnificent formation a few times from above to try to rationalize its existence, Craddock could no longer resist the urge to fly right through it! He had seen arches in his many travels. In fact he takes special note of them each time, as the unlikely formations never cease to amaze him. But never in his century of exploration has he encountered one large enough to fly through with the full length of his wingspan unfurled. But this one? He could do so with ease!
A natural wonder as unique as this deserves protection and preservation. Craddock has no doubt in his mind that he will claim the territory surrounding this arch. Not for the sake of greed or property, but for the sake of protecting such a delicate and special treasure of nature. Nothing is more important to him. This commission was very directly inspired by my trip to Arches National Park in Utah last year. The natural arches there are absolutely incredible, and it was undoubtedly an unforgettable experience. I knew as soon as I left that place that I needed to get something with my sona and Arches. I highly recommend visiting Arches if you ever get the chance. It's such a magical place and it is incredibly easy to experience all of its greatest views, so long as you can make it to the park in the first place!
This arch in particular is heavily inspired by what I believed to be the most impressive arch in the entire park, Landscape Arch. (Click here for a picture I took of it!) The arch spans over 300 feet!! Making it longer than an entire football field! The size is truly unbelievable, and photos do not do it justice. It truly would dwarf even a dragon flying through it!
As impossible as Landscape Arch appears, it is indeed very fragile. It has been documented in very recent history that a large chunk of the arch cracked and fell, indicating that it is certainly possible for the arch to crumble at any point. I urge everyone to visit Arches in the near future, because at any given year its most incredible sight may be gone forever. I consider myself lucky that I was able to witness it before that happens. This special commission was excellently brought to life by Cailou! They did a wonderful job of working with me to make sure the result was exactly what I had in mind!!
