Hey folks! Just a short series of 4 drawings I am working on, focusing on alternative endings 5 years after Imuas arrival where Imuas Long Hike could have reasonably taken a turn into an alternative ending, some are good, some are bad, and lets get into a good one!
Oli arrived 5 years ago on a mission to survey the lost Americas for SEAC, a mission that would have them made out to be a hero but, after a catastrophic first few days in the dragonscape involving an encounter with a trout, one of the locals informed them that there would be no escaping the DragonScape and their journey and the hypothetical extraction waiting in Boise was nothing but a lie.
Shattered by this revelation, Oli would accept an offer to live with the Seattlens for a time to get back on their feet, perhaps await a potential rescue. Though that rescue never came and 2 weeks become 2 years, which became 5 years and, through thick and thin Oli stuck with the Seattlens of Olympia and slowly came around to their life, settling into the local community for the long haul.
So yeah basically, assuming Sarah didn't have the same motivations that they did in TLH to see Oli head off, they might have allowed Oli to live with them after the whole trout incident and explain the probable manipulation SEAC was doing against Oli. So in this case Oli never leaves the Cascadian Dragonscape and thus the story diverges almost instantly from TLH, they never run into the Scorchers or Broncens of the Dragon've Paradise or anything of that sort and also thus, are still known as Oli
Also wanted to take some time to 'update how olympia as a village is seen as to be honest, chapter 1 of The Long Hike is a bit off canon, even after several edits made to the comic to help bring it in line, it was just unfortuneately part of a transitional period between canons.
So yeah a good ending! At least I think a potentially good ending

... Also, I -love- that absolute creature just scarfing down the river-thing in the back.
They would probably become denmates anywho so I am sure they would get along just fine.
And also it is not the first time the legend has appeared
Yeah honestly I feel as though the Seattlens are a good introduction to the DS and one that Oli could hypothetically acclimate into very well.
And uh, the next two are gonna be pretty bad so I wouldn’t jump to conclusions quiiite yet.
Good number of places where Imuas journey coulda been waaay more bleak
And lord of reeds being denied is definitely a good outcome
Without having anyone they could really travel with, and considering traveling alone is not a good idea at all, they chose to stay.
Forl needed someone To go with and Imua was the convenient answer and without that, Forl prolly wouldn’t have left even though they wanted to. Can’t just leave alone in a world like this
Now I kinda wanna go back and see if I can spot any of the lore inconsistencies now that I'm more invested.
There are many things that either don't apply to the current canon (such as all the rusty steel casually sitting around, to drekir having slightly different behaviors and mannerisms. That isn't to mention the number of times I've edited chapter 1 (and saved the originals duh), removing drekir with scrap muskets and steel roofs, etc.
Loooots of canonical "huhs" or just things I wouldn't draw today in chapter 1 and veeery early chapter 2. Just kinda the product of the canon changing at the same time as the comic
How did they got so fluffy?

Somewhat of a soft retcon basically
