A commission for a friend I did at the end of last year. This was quite a challenge, but was a ton of fun! She gave a lot of artistic freedom with it which allowed me to play with things a bit like posing and the sky. I'm also happy to have the excuse to draw equines more since I don't draw them too much.
The thestral was an interesting challenge! I've never drawn one before. I did a mix of movie and book version for 'em. I also felt like learning to draw the creature was a good equine study as well since so much of it is showing various bones and tendons.
I was also excited for the chance to practice a full colored picture with background. I don't do those nearly as much as I would like. They're a lot of fun, though! I think I'm slowly getting the hang of drawing short grass. And super proud of that moon, to be honest.
Over all, I'm really REALLY happy with how this image turned out. And so was my friend! (Who commissioned it both for a cake and then a final piece to be hung up.) Ahhhh, I kinda want to use it as a background for something myself!
((Also, please keep the Harry Potter debates to a minimum in the comments.))
