I was given a lot of freedom for this commission.
The friend who commissioned it is very into Arthurian stuff (and I am too) and especially likes the Green Knight poem, so I ended up getting so inspired about this idea of like... Not a recreation of an illuminated manuscript down to copying a medieval monk art style, but a modern descendant of that. I happen to think those monks and us cartoonists have a lot in common. And from there I experimented with a coloring style that would have a textured, layered paint feeling while being wholly unapologetically digital, and in the process became very excited about that color palate. Use of color is of course symbolically important in the poem its based on... I'm pleased as punch, basically.
