Do you enjoy creating new characters? I love it. ♥ However, I enjoy the creation based on an existing character even more. :D
It is the best way of relaxation for me, and by the way, it's a great thing to overcome an art block. In the case of an existing character, I already have something to rely on - there is some nature, some appearance I get started from, and basically just adjust it.
Adjustment of appearance as such is minimal, but the point of all this is to stir our imagination where we feel that it has stuck.
And I just love Kion, so... yeah. :D
I always saw him similar to Mufasa, but more like a cute fluffball. So I basically took Mufasa’s body shapes and made them more round, and gave him a feeling of more soft fur and bigger eyes. And I kept the colors and features from his original cub/teen design.
