Do virions specific to animals, such as distemper, have the same feelings and want to kill all dogs?
Viruses usually just follow their natural survival instincts. Because they can't replicate on their own, they need to infect an animal's cells in order to create more virions. Because of this, they actually don't want to kill their animal-hosts, because they might go extinct if their natural hosts aren't around anymore. However, some inviduals may die, but that's usually due to certain risk factors.
Covid virions are also just following their instincts, but the Nest (the infection happening within the unseen human character) which this story revolves around, developed a strange way of thinking due to events from their King's troubled childhood... and this is, among some other reasons, why this virus suddenly became more contagious and dangerous in this comic.
The reason why King Matthias wants his species to kill all humans is mainly because he became corrupted due to his crazy grandfather's indoctrination, and because he believes that humanity is violating Mother Gaia's rules.
He gave his father's story his own twist, due to his memories of his time with his father being somewhat distorded. He now falsely re that his father (who was actually a very kind, loving and peaceful virion) thought the same way as he does.
