"Surviving in the wilds" isn't very nice. Even NA trappers had to come in for Rendezvous for necessities and just to see other people who weren't trying to kill them or take their stuff!

Can you do that? I recall he was a quest related NPC and thus couldn't actually be killed till the relevant dark brotherhood quest. Despite my intense desire....

I believe that he’s a potential target for a couple of different radiant quests, but isn’t marked as essential, thus he can be killed before taking on either of them, as the game then selects another random target in his place.

Yeah. I read that in comments on another drawing. I guess it was the ears that confused me. I guess if I'd paid closer attention to Meeka's tail, I wouldn't have made that mistake. (Of course, Fen is half-dragon. Right?)
