I used the Japanese characters for the years - some differ from the Chinese ones.
I drew the Wild Asian Water Buffalo - according to Wikipedia, in the Vietnamese zodiac, the water buffalo (zodiac) occupies the position of the ox. This animal is endangered.
I also thought it would be more interesting to draw than the familiar ox.
