Well, this is something a bit different than what I normally do, and it was beginning to drag a little bit with my own art creep.
Years ago, I once played an educational game created by Dinamation called Devil's Canyon, which featured a robot dinosaur called Cyberaptor. For a long time, I struggled to track down the game, as despite not ever completing it, I always ed the game for it's weird 90's themed art style and a surprisingly good story/world to work with that was quite inspiring, especially with my own writings with robot dinos!
Recently though, I've rediscovered the game, and figured that at some point, I would look at doing a redesign of the iconic Cyberaptor 003 some twenty-six years ago. But in order to build up towards that, I had to get a design study of the original Cyberaptor model done up, which was actually very complex for the time, especially since I would be looking at a redesign.
Since the only materials on hand were 120pp videos of the original game, It was actually pretty challenging. I had to take screenshots out of the youtube videos of the original game's cutscenes and do rough traces from those screenshots before moving on to neater linework on said traces. Some were alot easier than others, and they were all coming at different angles and prospectives. All the better, as I could use those to partly reconstruct a full design from the game's model.
It was pretty damn facinating to look back through at 90's design infulences and to actually try and reassemble most of the design. There were parts I couldn't get fully reconstructed, but hopefully when I get round to the redesign of Cyber, I can use this as the basis.
In the meantime, enjoy!
As since Dinamation doesn't exist anymore... well... here is to hoping I get this right.
This design does not belong to me, and belongs to whoever owns the rights to Devil's Canyon or other former Dinamation properties. This is a design study/restoration of the original artwork with no intention of sale or profit.
