They were still around in two thousand two, and the reason this art came around is there was a shop in the local mall called Merlow's Cutlery, I think that's how it was spelled. They were obviously a knife shop, but they sold other odd things too, like these metal disentanglement puzzles called "Uncles' Puzzles", and really neat looking fantasy inspired blades and the design of this one caught my eye. Even though I never bought it, the shape and design of it made me want to draw it for whatever reason.
