Not only does this give a strong sense of transformation but also explained the trigger.. the hoop...super effectively.
In addition the design of the transformed gryphon is very appealing to look at. This contrast greatly with the still human legs.
Lastly I love the gryphon putting them through the hoop. Its very charming when someone is putting their friends through a transformation of their own. It makes me wonder if they too went through the hoop. Or maybe they've always been one and now wants their friend to experience being one as well. Either way the concept pushed all the right buttons.
Ah sorry about that... this kind of stuff makes me theorize and analyze so many things that I end up making long comments like this.
