Call it a guess, but I'm pretty sure Rapunzel had at least a few nightmares after what happened after the events of the movie.
In my headcanon, she has a nightmare almost every night for a month when she returns to the castle. Eugene was granted a full pardon in exchange for ing the Royal Guard, so Rapunzel learned quickly where his room was. She would sneak in and wake him up, and he would hold and comfort her until she falls asleep.
Her favorite spot is with her head on his chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat and breathing, reminding herself that he is here, he is alive, and he is okay.
She might not be at the moment, but she in time she will be.
