If you plan to comment, please use the [ spoiler ]-tag if needed!tl;dr: If you haven't yet, you should definitely watch the series "The Dragon Prince". You're missing out!
So... take a seat, grab some cookies, this is gonna take a few minutes:
Typically I do not really watch any shows at all, however, a friend of mine has told me about The Dragon Prince. And boy, did it deliver! At this point, I've watched the entire series 5 times over so far, and now I am the one recommending this series to whomever I can, because it is my favorite by far. And... yes, even after the fifth time, I couldn't stop myself from shedding some tears when Zubeia woke up to be reunited with her hatchling.
In fact, I believe that The Dragon Prince is a true masterpiece of a show of this genre, and here are a few reasons as of why:
- The most obvious one is probably the artstyle and animation. It's a pure pleasure for the eye, nothing seems forced or overtuned, and everything fits in.
- The setting and the characters are so well thought out. I've had hour-long discussions with friends about character development (Soren being one of the most notable ones here), and how they would continue to develop throughout the four* seasons. (*as of date of posting)
- The humor is on point. While there are true facepalm moments, they usually come from the characters you'd expect them from, and at moments where they perfectly break the pace. There's so many modern real life references, as well as fourth wall breaks, and it all seems natural.
- The attention to detail is stunning. There are a lot of subtle hints that are easy to miss, but they all make perfect sense once you stop to think about them or re-watch the series, such as the Key of Aravos, or Claudia's hair slowly turning grey from her use of dark magic. Even such aspects as the introduction to the sunforged blades through a side characte is simply brilliant, because it removes the need for explanation when it actually matters, allowing the fight scene at the breach to play out naturally.
Overall, I believe that the show is so good simply because I can see how much care and attention has been put into the writing, into the crafting of the world. I could name many, many more examples like Callum's dream which perfectly pictures the weirdness of the subconsciousness when processing through your experiences as you sleep. But in doing so, I could potentially write a whole book, which in turn would absolutely go way beyond the scope of this description.
Now, what does this have to do with Leni?
When I first saw Zym, I was surprised at how similar his color scheme looks to Leniovias on first glance. Of course there are a lot of differences in the details, but the light blue scales combined with a darker shade for both wings and belly scales was the main factor that made me start to wonder how Leniovias would fit into the picture. And the more I thought of it, the more I came to the conclusion that he'd perfectly fit in as an ice subspecies of the Sky Dragons. After all, "Aspiro Frigis" - the ice breath - has been used with the Primal Stone, which therefore classifies ice as part of the sky magic.
And it's a perfect match for Leniovias:
- He's an ice dragon with a frost breath who can also summon ice armor for defense.
- He loves to fly, especially during storms, which makes perfect sense since the primal energy of sky is strongest during a storm. On top of that, he's very agile and fast in the sky.
- He's kind to his friends and fierce to his opponents. Usually he avoids fights, but if he has to defend the ones who are dear to him, he certainly will! And if he is outdone in strength by his opponent, then he'll win by strategy and speed.
- When it comes to his role in the world, he'd be at the same size as the other "regular" dragons seen in the show, a size that is also canon to him since 2016.
- And, of course, when comparing to Zym and Zubeia, his color would certainly suit a dragon of the sky.
There's no part of him that, in my eyes, would not suit to a sky dragon - considering that ice is part of the sky.
And how does it result in this art piece?
The idea behind this scene is that after Zym has returned to his mother, it has been decided that a new Dragon Guard needs to be appointed. Elves, Dragons and maybe even a few Humans are selected to protect Zym, and Leniovias is one of the dragons who has been chosen. On the art piece, we can see him bowing before Zubeia and Zym at her side to swear his oath to protect The Dragon Prince.
While this scene on its own is a wonderful piece of art to look at (the artist really did an amazing job), it also has a metaphorical meaning: Leniovias represents myself, showing deep appreciation towards Zym, who is "The Dragon Prince" himself! But not just that, the appreciation also goes towards his mother, the powerful being who was responsible for bringing "The Dragon Prince" to life - which represents the whole staff who was involved in the creation of this absolute masterpiece of a show.
If you have been reading this far, thank you <3 (And sorry for the ones who do not want to be spoiled... Go watch it and then return! :P)
And with that being said... special thanks to Ashes Drawn for this awesome piece, it's amazing seeing this idea come to life! And I'm more than happy to have something that represents a special connection between myself and the show and characters that I learned to love so much <3

Pretty sure we breezed through all 3 seasons in 3 days xD
And I'm sure you'll be able to protect the prince throughout everything!
