Well, for the Sonora desert at least.
Mojave, I'm not so sure about.

Hmmm....
I need to go on a desert crawl again, after it warms up.

grew up in the "hills" (donner summit) about half the state north of you.
mule deer most typical animal, although for smaller ones, maybe porcupine.
kitkitdizz and wild blackberries. phesant and quail. and really big pine trees.
