I got first go at this radio before it was to become eBay parts fodder. I know the lowboy version of this radio is rare and it appears Philco made two versions, which I think this is the second one. It still uses the earlier type 70 chassis with the four type 24 tubes.
The bad news is: It cost me $120 to save, as I guess the parts are worth that much on eBay. Also it's missing a knob, someone used a piece of a sofa for a grill cloth (now removed as it was nasty), and one 24 was cracked and the 47 was about totally dead Also, it's missing the dial escutcheon.
The good news is: The power transformer checks out. The speaker has been re-coned sometime in the past, so no petrified speaker cone to deal with! The rest of the tubes test good and strong. The cabinet is solid. And finally, after replacing the 24 and borrowing a 47 from my Crosley Adventurer, I brought the radio up slowly and someone is definitely home. It took all my indoor and outdoor antenna, but it picks up stations faintly. Definitely a good sign.
